4 Sketchy Yet Totally Normal Things Nipples Can Do

NipplesWhat’s the best thing about nipples? The fact that they come in all shapes and sizes, of course. If you’re like most women, chances are, you’ve been self-conscious of some aspect of your nipples at least once in your life. But honestly, most of those insecurities are completely unfounded. Here are four perfect examples of strange but totally normal things that nipples do.

  1. Grow Hair

If you’ve ever been mortified by a few stray hairs around your nips, join the club. Chest hair growth in women is quite common and is usually linked with hormonal changes.

If you’re noticing a ton of nipple hair, though, check in with your doctor, as this may be a sign of an underlying condition like PCOS.

  2. Change Size or Color

That’s right, your nipples can do magic tricks. Well, sort of. During and after pregnancy, the majority of women notice changes in the size or color of their nipples. But again, this is nothing to panic over.

  3. Have Tiny Bumps

Everybody’s got them, and they’re called Montgomery glands. While no one’s quite sure as to what their exact function is, we do know that they’re normal sebaceous glands and are absolutely nothing to worry about.

Some people have a little, some have a lot, but in either case, Montgomery glands are totally normal.

  4. Be Inverted

Nipples that stick in instead of out are normal, too. In fact, 10 to 20 percent of women have inverted nipples. While these aren’t typically of any medical concern, women who wish to treat this condition can opt for inverted nipple surgery or other cosmetic breast surgeries to enhance their breast appearance.
